Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:ThreeMenWalkingII.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:55, 4 December 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 21:55, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Images

Could you please give shorter titles to any image uploads. All that's needed is something to distinguish it from another image. Fuller information can be given on the image page. Also any images uploaded should only be placed in an article where the text clearly indicates the need for an image, and preferably includes some specific discussion of it which is referenced. Disputed fair use rationale for File:'White Field' by Günther Uecker, 1964, painted nails on painted canvasboard, Museum of Modern Art (New York City).jpg}

Thank you for uploading File:'White Field' by Günther Uecker, 1964, painted nails on painted canvasboard, Museum of Modern Art (New York City).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Why have you moved this article when there appears to be no other article with a same or similar name? Kiwipete (talk) 21:23, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inter Wikilinking the Article that you are in

Putting double brackets around the article that you are editing in only bold's the text and does not link anything. It doesn't work.

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kii--Hulu Manu (feathered image) believed to represent Kukailimoku,18c.-believed to represent Kuka’ilimoku, wicker, feathers, mother-of-pearl, dog teeth.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 72.88.68.185 (talk) 04:07, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Stephen Little - 'Ocean of Emptyness'.jpg

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Stephen Little - 'Ocean of Emptyness'.jpg.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 05:14, 20 November 2009 (UTC). The above noted image or media file appears to have conflicted licensing. As an image cannot be both 'free' and 'unfree', a check of the exact status of this media/image concerned is advised.Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:44, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Basquiat

File:Untitled painting by --Jean-Michel Basquiat--.jpg You had uploaded the image to Wikipedia. I was unable to locate any commentary in the article discussing the image, and so by my undersanding of the use of copyright material, the image has been removed from the article. Also, considering the fact that there are already a number copyright images within the article, having this as an additional image may be excessive. Please remember to always say where you got it

Don't forget to add sources to all of your image uploads, otherwise they will be deleted. Looking through the archives, I see that many of your images have already been deleted. Viriditas (talk) 20:55, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, as before, there continues to be a basic problem communicating with you. This will not work. You need to add the exact source where you got the image from originally. If that's a website, a book, or a personal photograph that you yourself took, you need to state that explicitly. Please do not remove tags asking for sources. Yes, many of these images are in the public domain, but unless we know where the image came from, we can't use it. Viriditas (talk) 20:58, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 20:14, 15 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Blackamoors

Please explain your redirect of the article Blackamoors (decorative arts). The article does not only discuss sculptures, and indeed the term may not even be appropriate even to some three dimensional works. The article covers sculpture, decorative items, signs, flags etc. Paul B (talk) 12:26, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's a bit rich that you lecture me on procedure, while clearly demonstrating that you have no knowledge of the relevant one. When two pages exist to be merged, a merger will inevitably leave the page history of the merged article at the redirect. That does not eliminate it. It can still be found at the redirect. That is not a cut-and-paste move to a new title. It's a merger. I suggest you read WP:merger. I know of no procedure to merge two distinct page revision histories. I can only assume that you did not check that the decorative arts page pre-existed the merger, nor did you read the contents of the page. So you now criticise me for not using the move button, which would not have been possible, while cutting and pasting yourself! However, thank you for adding the 'merge from' tag. Paul B (talk) 11:43, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Artists from Hawaii vs. Hawaii artists

Based on an edit you made to an article on my watchlist, I see that you have moved the entries from Category:Artists from Hawaii to Category:Hawaii artists. I'm not sure what practical difference this makes and I wanted to gain a better understanding of why this category should be structured differently from the other 49 states included in the parent Category:American artists by state. Perhaps we should rename the other categories to match the one for Hawaii, but we should probably try to be consistent across all states. Alansohn (talk) 15:21, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I created the category "Hawaii artists" for visual artists who were born in, have lived in, have worked in or been involved with Hawaii. 31 January 2009 Cydebot renamed the category "Artists from Hawaii", even though most of the artists listed are not FROM Hawaii, and some visited only briefly. I have no objection to the category “Artists from Hawaii", but it would be conceptually different from "Hawaii artists".Wmpearl (talk) 18:39, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that the parent Category:American artists by state is intended to organize artists *from* each of the 50 states, not artists who have worked or been involved with the state. For consistency with the 49 other state categories, would it be possible to segregate these artists by their connection to Hawaii, putting those who are from or who have lived in Hawaii in the Category:Artists from Hawaii, while those who visited only briefly and haven't lived in the state remain in Category:Hawaii artists? P.S. I shifted your reply here so that we can keep the conversation in one place. Alansohn (talk) 20:20, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you completely Wmpearl (talk) 20:29, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Icarus

Hi, Wmpearl. I was looking for Icarus images and saw the relief from the Musée Antoine Vivenel you uploaded. Do you know where I can find more information about it? After a great deal of searching, I've only found it in this book, which doesn't add much. Cynwolfe (talk) 01:29, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I saw this in another museum having a special exhibition about labyrinths and photographed it. I know nothing else about it. Sorry! Wmpearl (talk) 03:23, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:The Pilgrim (Il pellegrino), bronze sculpture by Marino Marini, 1939, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.JPG

Thank you for uploading File:The Pilgrim (Il pellegrino), bronze sculpture by Marino Marini, 1939, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion.
